The fixture welcomed Andyhibbert to his first match. Andy started out as a lone spectator and was recruited by Milo to join the Muftis part way through the match.
In the deepest past Steve would pick sides and somehow, for about four years, players grudgingly accepted that he was as close to fair as we could get. Steve is now out injured and suddenly there is a distinct air of discontent, this has resulted in two consecutive weeks where players from the opposing side have demanded that JonF engage in Parley.
Milo brought order to the practice and explained to all who would listen that players must come to the table with proposals and not problems. This sagacious piece of wisdom shut everyone up and the match kicked off.
Barkball is a player whom we suspect has played or coached at a higher level. Everyone under his stewardship excels, and the team becomes greater than the sum of its parts. JakeFlowers, JonF, Koonal, MartinMac and Milo found themselves outfoxed as the game was expertly closed down leaving them 2 – 1 behind for much of the opening 15 or so minutes. Yes the Muftis were 2 – 1 down despite all of their striking power and runners. Shain who has scored every week since his return scored again this week.
Luteusmaximus arrived and it was accepted that he would start on the Bibs’ side and the Muftis would have to see how they could cope with a man less. Ever resourceful Milo played his trump card for the Muftis and signed Andyhibbert up from the sidelines. The opposition was astounded and wondered if this had been planned from the start.
Both players in their respective ways changed the game. Luteusmaximus with his trade mark moves opened up the opposition’s midfield/defence for Anthonyto and Kaichan to join him in attacks. Andyhibbert acting as a quiet general directed waves of strikes. Andy was rewarded with a debut goal.
Once they levelled the match the Muftis then pulled ahead.
The Bibs were finding it difficult to neutralise Andyhibbert, as he was a new player whom the fixture had not seen before. The closest the Bibs came to holding their own was getting the match back to 4 – 3.
JakeFlowers is the current holder of the title Goal Machine. Shain, having scored a hat-trick the previous week was beginning to lay his claim to the accolade of a player who can score with minimal touches. JakeFlowers was having none of it and smashed in a hat-trick of his own this week. One from the left, one from the right and we believe one down the middle off of the underside of the bar. The private tussle for the year end Goal Machine crown seems to be heating up.
Anyway enough of battles within matches. The Muftis got themselves to 7 – 4 ahead and one of the rarest things in our football seemed to be on the horizon – Barkball was about to be on the losing side.
The next team arrived and, strangely for them, they just ran up and opened the gate. And so it came to pass the Muftis with their new signing had won and he had scored a brace on his debut.
Final score
Muftis 7 – Orange Bibs 4
Things to Note
Andyhibbert had a sterling debut and with a well taken brace joins the band of brothers who have scored multiple goals in their first match.
The result this week means that MartinMac is on a run of three out of three games without defeat.
Shain has scored in every match since his return.
Basically no pressure lads those are just the stats.
