We commenced the evening with enough members in attendance for five- a-side. Those present were informed that the player formerly known as Daniel will henceforth be known as dA.Niesta.
JonF’s team randomiser was used to select the sides. We couldn’t get agreement on the first selection so we did it again. Some people were unhappy with the next team selection so we asked to select again. In essence it was a bit like a referendum. At around the sixth time of asking we could no longer reasonably disagree with the outcome and played with the teams above.
We played a good close match with neither side giving an inch. By 9.08pm it was 15 – 13 to the Orange Bibs. dA.Niesta had to leave so some Orange Bibs began shaking hands and gracefully accepting the victory. Avvon, JonF and Scott were willing to play on with four players and rush keeper. It was a decent night and no team was coming after us so we played on. To guarantee a victory all that the Orange Bibs had to do was match the Yellows’ scoring rate. This would prove a simple task for Sadulla, JakeFlowers and dabiyani1995, leaving Steve and Niyi to rotate the keeping. The extra man began to tell and the Yellow Bibs fell behind 20 – 16.
Steve announced that four goals ahead was irretrievable and he too had to go. Also Steve had scored past Avvon for possibly the first time in ages so there was technically nothing left to prove. Some Orange Bibs began shaking hands and gracefully accepting the victory. Avvon, JonF and Scott said that now the sides were even we should play on four against four. Austin was OK with that so we decided to play a mini match of best of five. Just like old times.
Oranges went one up. Then in echoes of a few years back JonF poured on the pressure and scored a hat-trick and the Yellow Bibs won the mini match 3 – 1. Again some people thought it was all over, this time it was. The Yellow Bibs had proved that the best way to get a victory is to keep trying. The club is considering sending Avvon, JonF and Scott to Downing Street…
