Match Report Wed 25 Nov 2020
Dear Colleagues,
I hope that you and yours are well.
We will have come out of Lockdown 2 on Wednesday 2 December 2020. London will be Tier 2: High Alert. The government has indicated that organised outdoor sport, and physical activity and exercise classes can continue. This means that we should be able to return to matches at TWFC from Wednesday 2 December. Tottenham Sports Centre has the final say on the matter, so we will need to await whatever they tell JonF (our club captain).
With this in mind please book your next matches on the website at https://cbdatabases.com/twfc/ .
Things to Note
The club recognises the significant efforts made by football pundit and player Robbie Savage to keep the value of grass roots football uppermost in the minds of the relevant authorities. Who knows where we might be without his focus on championing the lower tiers of football. Many thanks Robbie.
On a sad note the club marks the passing of
Ray Clemence MBE – One of the greatest England goalkeepers of all time. He kept for THFC, our illustrious neighbours, from 1981 – 1988 wining the FA Cup, UEFA Cup and Charity Shield (shared) while at Spurs. This was after having been at Liverpool FC and winning the First Division five times, the European Cup three times, UEFA Cup twice, the European Super Cup, FA Cup and five Charity Shields (one shared).
Diego Maradona – 1986 World Cup Winner, who is arguably one of the greatest players ever to play the game. His awards would easily take up most of the rest of this page. Suffice it to say Pele, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were always happy to be photographed with him. He was awarded FIFA Player of the Century and FIFA Goal of the Century and Argentina’s president has announced three days of national mourning.
Maradona also played alongside Ray Clemence in one match for Spurs at White Hart Lane in May 1986. This was against Inter Milan when he came over for Ossie Ardiles’s testimonial. An interesting piece of trivia from that match is Maradona had to borrow some boots from Clive Allen. The next season Clive scored 49 goals in all competitions.
We remember two greats of the beautiful game. R.I.P Ray Clemence and Diego Maradona. Thank you for all of the memories.
